So I spend ab out half my internet time in the kin javerse, mostly here and Jalopnik. Nothing has changed in my browsing habits, but the last couple months my data usage has almost doubled, putting me over my limit. I can’t seem to drill down any further than “Google chrome” for the data usage, I have turned on data saver and turned off as many autoload/autoplay features as I can find, hasn’t made any difference.
I know people were complaining about more autoload videos on Jalopnik lately, is anybody else experiencing this?

I hadn’t noticed anything for Oppo, but the Jalopnik front page has been running agonizingly slow and generating a data usage notice every time I access it on my phone - which is every time I visit it now, since I don’t seem to be able to log in with Safari on my laptop anymore.

Jalopnik has been painfully slow loading, but Oppo and the Kinja management pages load up very quickly. I think the problem is the ads on Jalopnik that autoplay or scroll with the page.

The front page is so slow for me . even on PC running chrome.
Many of the articles won’t even load for me on Safari via mobile.
Oppo isn’t so bad

I use brave, haven't noticed a difference with it, but it blocks ads automatically. FP is what finally pushed me over the edge into using it, I just couldn't take it anymore.

Yeah all the FPs are like that now...rarely post there anymore, what with 50% of the page being ads and the jankyness. They look like content mills now, I feel sorry for the writers.

I think there’s still good content (with a few exceptions once in a while that seem like they might have been accidentally linked from Pravda), but the glitchiness makes it unusable and almost unreadable.

The FO is so loaded down with garbage, that it is unusable to me on mobile. I have given up. It takes forever to load, and comments ... Forget it.

Yeah it’s driven me away from the FP almost entirely. Not worth the headache to wait forever for a page to load. And comments? lol nope

Yeah, notice that too on the comments, I think the main pages will be shut off unless I on on wifi from now on, see how it goes.

On desktop, if you scroll to or past the “Featured videos” section on FP, it will play seemingly indefinitely (but muted, how polite I guess). Blocking kinja-otfp.global.ssl.fastly.net will kill that, but may break other stuff.

Exactly. I still read David Tracey's articles, because I love them and they're worth the trouble. Can't comment on them though. I mentioned this to him, and he's been having the same trouble on mobile.
